Our Commitment to Sustainability & Ethical Beekeeping
Last Updated: July 2026
At Stax of Wax Ltd, sustainability isn't simply a policy—it is part of how we work every day. Our business depends on healthy honey bees, thriving local ecosystems and responsible beekeeping, so protecting the environment is fundamental to everything we do.
Based in the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, we are proud to produce our own honey and beeswax from our own apiaries. From caring for our colonies to packing customer orders, we aim to make practical, responsible decisions that support both our bees and the environment.
We believe sustainability begins with honesty. Rather than making unrealistic environmental claims, we prefer to be transparent about our working practices and continually improve wherever possible.
Our Bees Come First
The health and welfare of our honey bee colonies always take priority over maximising production.
Our apiaries are maintained in permanent locations within the Lincolnshire Wolds, meaning we do not routinely transport colonies long distances for commercial crop pollination. This helps reduce unnecessary travel while minimising stress on our bees.
We harvest only surplus honey and beeswax, ensuring our colonies retain sufficient natural stores to support themselves throughout the seasons.
We believe responsible beekeeping begins by working with nature, not against it.
Ethical Beekeeping
Our approach to beekeeping is centred on the long-term wellbeing of our colonies.
Where practical, we:
-
Carry out hive inspections only when necessary to minimise disturbance.
-
Maintain healthy hive conditions appropriate for the colony.
-
Harvest responsibly, taking only surplus honey and beeswax.
-
Encourage natural colony development wherever possible.
-
Continually improve our beekeeping knowledge through experience, education and best practice.
Healthy bees produce healthy hives, and healthy hives benefit the wider environment.
Honey & Beeswax Production
All of our honey and beeswax are produced from our own apiaries.
Our honey and beeswax are filtered using mechanical methods to remove natural hive debris without the use of chemical bleaching agents, synthetic solvents or artificial clarifying chemicals.
Where warming is required, only gentle heat is applied to allow honey or wax to flow naturally through the filtration process while helping preserve their natural qualities.
Some of our honey is produced as soft set (creamed) honey using a traditional controlled stirring process. This creates a naturally smooth, spreadable texture without altering the natural composition of the honey.
Dedicated Production Facilities
Unlike many small producers who work from domestic kitchens, we operate from dedicated honey extraction and packing rooms designed specifically for processing hive products and preparing customer orders.
These dedicated workspaces allow us to maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and product quality throughout our production process.
Responsible Packaging
Protecting your order while reducing environmental impact is an important balance.
Wherever practical we choose paper and cardboard packaging in preference to plastic.
Our packaging may include:
-
Recyclable glass jars.
-
Metal lids.
-
Metal tins or recyclable plastic containers for selected skincare products, depending on the product requirements.
-
Recycled cardboard shipping boxes.
-
Kraft paper void fill.
-
Paper-based packaging materials wherever suitable.
Some products, particularly glass jars of honey, require additional protection during delivery. Where necessary, we use recyclable bubble wrap to help prevent breakages and unnecessary product waste.
We currently use high-strength Sellotape to securely seal parcels, as it remains the most reliable option for ensuring orders arrive safely. We continually review alternative packaging materials and will adopt more environmentally friendly solutions where they provide the same level of protection and reliability.
Our aim is not to eliminate plastic at the expense of product safety or quality, but to reduce its use wherever practical while ensuring customers receive their orders in excellent condition.
Supporting UK Businesses
Whenever practical, we source packaging, equipment and other materials from UK suppliers.
Supporting British businesses helps reduce transportation distances while contributing to local manufacturing and supply chains.
Where we cannot source materials locally, we work with trusted suppliers who share our commitment to quality and responsible business practices.
Reducing Unnecessary Travel
We continually look for practical ways to reduce unnecessary vehicle journeys.
For local customers, we often organise deliveries into planned delivery rounds rather than making individual trips. This allows multiple orders to be delivered efficiently while reducing fuel consumption and unnecessary travel.
Waste Reduction & Recycling
We continually seek opportunities to reduce waste throughout our business.
This includes:
-
Planning production efficiently.
-
Reusing suitable packaging materials within our own operations where safe and appropriate.
-
Recycling cardboard, paper, glass and metals wherever local facilities allow.
-
Choosing recyclable materials wherever practical.
-
Reviewing new packaging solutions as they become available.
Supporting Nature & Pollinators
Healthy pollinators are essential for healthy ecosystems.
Beyond caring for our own honey bees, we actively encourage biodiversity by planting trees and wildflower seeds whenever possible.
We also donate wildflower seeds to local schools, community groups and organisations where we can, helping to create more pollinator-friendly habitats for honey bees, bumblebees, butterflies and other important insects.
We believe that supporting nature extends beyond our own apiaries and into the wider community.
Working with Environmentally Responsible Organisations
We actively seek opportunities to work with organisations that share our environmental values.
This includes working with environmentally conscious companies, such as Eco Compost, wherever appropriate, as part of our ongoing commitment to reducing waste and improving sustainability.
Continuous Improvement
Sustainability is an ongoing journey.
We regularly review our beekeeping practices, production methods, packaging, suppliers and business operations to identify practical improvements that reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the quality, safety and integrity of our products.
As our business grows, we will continue investing in more sustainable solutions wherever they are practical, effective and genuinely beneficial.
Our Commitment
At Stax of Wax Ltd, we believe responsible beekeeping benefits everyone.
Healthy bees support healthy ecosystems. Healthy ecosystems support biodiversity. By caring for our colonies, protecting local habitats and continually improving the way we work, we hope to make a positive contribution to both our local environment and the wider beekeeping community.
Every jar of honey, every block of beeswax and every handcrafted product reflects our commitment to ethical beekeeping, responsible production and environmental sustainability.
Thank you for supporting a small, independent British beekeeping business.
