Why Choose Real Beeswax & Pure Honey?

At Stax Of Wax Ltd, we believe in using and producing genuine natural products. Our beeswax and honey come from our own hives in Louth, Lincolnshire, where our bees forage across meadows, orchards, woodland, and farmland.

But with many imported and processed products on the market, it can sometimes be difficult to know what is real and what isn’t. Here are a few simple ways to recognise authentic beeswax and pure honey.

How Can You Tell If Beeswax Is Real?

Pure beeswax has several natural characteristics that are difficult to replicate.

Natural Aroma

Real beeswax has a gentle honey-like scent. It smells warm and slightly sweet because it comes directly from the honeycomb created by bees.

Natural Colour

Beeswax naturally ranges from pale cream to deep golden yellow depending on the flowers the bees have visited. Slight colour variations are completely natural.

Clean Burning

When used in candles, pure beeswax burns with a bright, steady flame and releases a subtle natural honey aroma.

Handmade Character

Because beeswax is a natural material, each batch can vary slightly in colour, scent, and texture. These small variations are a sign of authenticity.

How Can You Tell If Honey Is Real?

Check the Label

Authentic honey should clearly show where it comes from or the beekeeper who produced it. Labels that say “Blend of EU and non-EU honeys” usually indicate imported honey that has been mixed together.

Natural Crystallisation

Crystallisation is completely natural. Many real honeys will set or become creamy over time depending on the flowers the bees have visited. This is a sign of genuine honey, not a fault.

Aroma and Flavour

Real honey has complex natural flavours. Depending on the season and flowers, it may taste floral, fruity, herbal, or slightly woody.

Buy From a Beekeeper

Buying directly from a beekeeper means you can understand where the honey comes from, how it is produced, and how the bees are cared for.

Why Buying Local Honey Matters

Choosing honey from a local beekeeper helps support:
🐝 Healthy bee populations
🌼Local wildflowers and pollination
🌍 Sustainable beekeeping practices
🍯 Traceable British honey
When you buy local honey, you know where it comes from and how it was produced.

The Truth About “Raw Honey”

You may have seen the term “raw honey” on supermarket shelves. In the UK, this term is not strictly regulated, so it does not always guarantee that the honey is unprocessed.

True raw honey is generally:

  • Not heat treated

  • Only lightly filtered

  • Naturally cloudy or creamy

  • Able to crystallise naturally over time

Many commercial honeys are heated and heavily filtered to keep them clear and slow down crystallisation. While this improves shelf appearance, it can remove some of the natural characteristics of honey.

From Our Hives in LincolnshireAt Stax Of Wax Ltd, our honey is produced in our apiaries around Louth, Lincolnshire. It is lightly filtered, never heat treated, and nothing is added or taken away. Our bees forage across a variety of local landscapes, creating honey that reflects the natural character of the Lincolnshire countryside.
